Why a Girls Trip Will Fill Your Soul

There’s something incredibly special about friendships that last decades. My closest group of girlfriends have been together for over three decades, and I truly cannot imagine life without them.

My Girls!
My Girls!

Life has taken us in so many different directions. Some of us still live close by, while others have moved to different cities and one thing we’ve always made a priority is staying connected.

When we lived closer and life was a little simpler, we could see each other all the time. Now, between careers, kids, families, and everything else adulthood brings, we can’t always be together like we were in our twenties.

But we’ve created traditions that keep our bond strong.

For the friends who live locally or within driving distance, we meet for monthly brunches — a few hours to catch up, laugh, and remind ourselves that no matter how busy life gets, we still have each other.

And once a year, we make something sacred happen.

Our annual girls trip!

These trips are more than just a getaway. They’re soul-filling time together — long conversations, endless laughter, ridiculous inside jokes, and the kind of memories that stay with you for a lifetime.

We’ve truly been through every stage of life together. We’ve supported each other through being single, getting married, going through divorces, raising kids, navigating careers, and all the unexpected twists life brings. Through every high and every challenge, one thing has always remained the same — we show up for each other. That kind of friendship is rare, and it’s something I never take for granted.

Our girls trips are the rare moments when the outside world slows down and there’s no rushing off to the next responsibility. Instead, it’s leisure time to be together for talking about everything and nothing at the same time. Always laughing until our stomachs hurt.

Those moments leave us revived, recharged, and grateful.

And here’s the thing: a girls trip doesn’t have to be luxurious or expensive. What matters most is the time together.

If you’re on a budget, plan something simple:

  • A weekend road trip

  • A staycation in your own city

  • A cozy lake house rental

  • A rooftop pool

  • A cabin in the wood

  • Even just a night away somewhere new

For those of us in Indianapolis, we’re lucky to have so many easy getaway options within driving distance, like Cincinnati, Louisville, Chicago, Lake Michigan, Lake Monroe, Nashville Tennessee, Brown County State Park, and French Lick.

And sometimes you don’t even have to leave town. There are incredible hidden gems right here in Indianapolis — think rooftop pools with gorgeous downtown views, the perfect setting for a girls staycation.

Some of my favorite memories in life are from these trips — the overpacked suitcases, late-night talks, spontaneous adventures, and laughing so hard we can barely breathe.

They remind me that friendship is one of the greatest gifts in life.

So here’s my encouragement to you: grab your best friends and plan the trip.

Don’t wait for the perfect time. Life will always be busy. The kids will always have schedules. Work will always need something. But the memories you create together will be priceless.

Pro tip: If you have different groups of girlfriends, bring them together! That’s exactly what I did years ago, and now we’re all like sisters. Expanding your circle of friendship can create a support system that lasts a lifetime.

If you need ideas for a girls getaway — whether it’s an exotic destination or a quick road trip — I’d love to help. I might even share our secret Indianapolis staycation spot and book it for you.

Because everyone deserves a trip that fills their soul. 💕
